Participation Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Sussex Gleaning. We look forward to meeting you! In order for our gleans to run as smoothly as possible, we ask that you observe the following guidelines.
- Our mission is to recover fresh fruit and veg in order to reduce waste, improve health, and provide access to nutritious food for our community. Please behave in a way that's consistent with that mission while volunteering with us.
- If you find you’re unable to attend, after signing up for a glean, please cancel your roster spot or notify the gleaning day leader. This helps us make sure we have a full crew of volunteers for the glean in question.
- Please do your best to be punctual. A safety training and introduction will be given by the glean leader at the start of the event and we don’t want you to miss anything. If you are running late to a glean and are able to safely message the gleaning lead then please do to help with their expectations.
- For everyone’s safety our events are alcohol and substance free.
- Many of the farms we glean from are the farmer’s residences. We have been granted permission to enter to pick produce. Please be respectful of the fact that this is someone’s home.
- Please listen to, and follow, the safety advice given by the glean leader.
- The glean leader has been trained to supervise the event to make sure volunteers have a productive and enjoyable time. Please follow her/his directions.
Thank you for volunteering with us!
